Evolving Universe: The Headline Mode

PUBG Mobile's 4.3 update arrives as the game celebrates eight years since its global launch, and the centerpiece is the Evolving Universe mode. This is not a simple reskin of classic battle royale. Evolving Universe fundamentally changes how matches play out by introducing a three-phase structure that shifts the rules mid-game.

In Phase 1 (Landing), the match begins as a standard battle royale. Players drop in, loot, and engage in early fights as expected. After the first zone closes, Phase 2 (Evolution) activates. During this phase, anomaly zones appear across the map, marked by swirling energy fields. Stepping into these zones grants temporary abilities: enhanced speed, a short-range dash, or a deployable energy shield. The abilities are randomized per zone, so there is an element of risk-reward when contesting them.

Phase 3 (Convergence) is where things get truly chaotic. The final circles gain environmental hazards like gravity shifts and energy storms that deal tick damage. The last few squads must fight through these conditions while managing their evolved abilities. It creates a distinctly different endgame from classic PUBG Mobile, one that rewards adaptability over pure gunplay.

M1 Garand and Weapon Additions

The M1 Garand joins the weapon pool as a semi-automatic rifle using 7.62mm ammunition. It features an 8-round en-bloc clip (with the iconic ping sound on the final round) and deals 56 base damage per shot. For comparison, the Mini 14 deals 46 and the SKS deals 53, placing the M1 Garand as the hardest-hitting semi-auto DMR in the game.

The trade-off is its fixed 8-round magazine with no extended mag attachment. You can equip a scope, muzzle, and stock, but you cannot push the magazine beyond 8 rounds. This makes trigger discipline essential. The M1 Garand spawns as floor loot on Erangel and Livik, with a slightly higher drop rate in Evolving Universe mode.

Alongside the Garand, the update introduces the Tactical Crossbow, a sidearm-slot weapon that fires bolts with a built-in 2x scope. It deals 105 damage per bolt and can down an unarmored player in a single headshot. Its slow reload (3.5 seconds per bolt) and limited range make it a niche pick, but it is devastating in the right hands during early-game building fights.

Jujutsu Kaisen Collaboration

The 4.3 update features a full collaboration with Jujutsu Kaisen, bringing themed content across multiple areas of the game. The headline items are four character-themed outfits: Itadori Yuji (featuring his distinctive Sukuna tattoo markings), Gojo Satoru (with the iconic blindfold and Six Eyes effect), Fushiguro Megumi, and Nobara Kugisaki.

Beyond skins, the collaboration introduces a limited-time event called Domain Expansion. Scattered across the map are cursed energy totems. Interacting with one triggers a 30-second challenge where waves of cursed spirits spawn, and clearing them rewards Jujutsu Kaisen event tokens. These tokens can be exchanged for exclusive weapon skins, a themed backpack, and a Gojo Satoru emote.

The Spawn Island lobby has been temporarily redesigned to resemble the Jujutsu High campus, complete with character standees and ambient sound effects from the anime. It is a polished collaboration that goes deeper than the usual skin-only tie-ins.

Map Changes

Erangel receives targeted updates in the 4.3 patch. Pochinki has been partially rebuilt with taller structures, adding more vertical combat opportunities. Two new three-story buildings replace the old single-story houses in the town center, creating sightlines that reward marksman and DMR play.

The bridge connecting the military island has been reinforced with destructible barricades on both ends. These barricades can absorb a limited amount of damage before breaking, providing temporary cover for teams attempting the crossing. It does not eliminate bridge camping entirely, but it gives attackers a fighting chance.

Livik receives a new POI called Signal Station, located in the northeast hills. It is a compact compound with a communications tower, two medium buildings, and guaranteed high-tier loot spawns. The tower itself has a zipline connecting it to the nearest hillside, enabling fast rotations.

Quality of Life Improvements

The 4.3 update addresses several long-standing community requests:

  • Improved loot UI: The ground loot interface now shows attachment compatibility indicators. A small green dot appears next to attachments that fit weapons currently in your inventory.
  • Revive timer visibility: Knocked teammates now display their remaining revive time above their head in a larger, clearer font visible at up to 200 meters.
  • Vehicle fuel indicator: All vehicles now show their fuel level before you enter, displayed as a small gauge above the vehicle.
  • Ping improvements: The marking system now supports a "danger" ping (double-tap) and a "looting here" ping (hold), adding tactical communication options for players who do not use voice chat.
  • Replay system upgrade: Death replays now include the full five seconds before the kill, up from three seconds, giving better insight into how you were spotted.

The 8th anniversary update is substantial. Between Evolving Universe, the M1 Garand, and the Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration, there is enough new content to pull in returning players and keep veterans engaged through the season.
