MLBB Season 40 patch notes featuring new hero Marcel, the Soul Photographer

Marcel: MLBB's Newest Support Hero

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Season 40 has landed, and it brings one of the most anticipated hero releases in recent memory. Marcel, a support-class hero, enters the Land of Dawn with a kit designed to disrupt team fights and enable aggressive plays from the backline.

Marcel's passive, Harmonic Resonance, generates a sound wave every time he casts an ability, stacking up to three times. At full stacks, his next basic attack releases a pulse that slows all nearby enemies by 30% for 1.5 seconds. This gives Marcel consistent crowd control without relying solely on his skill cooldowns.

His first skill, Sonic Blast, sends a directional shockwave that deals magic damage and reduces the movement speed of enemies hit. The wave passes through minions but stops at the first enemy hero, making it excellent for laning harassment. His second skill, Crescendo Shield, grants a shield to the nearest allied hero with the lowest HP and boosts their movement speed by 20% for two seconds. It is a reactive tool that rewards attentive positioning.

Marcel's ultimate, Symphony of Ruin, creates a large AoE zone that silences enemies inside it for 1.5 seconds after a brief delay. The zone persists for four seconds, dealing continuous magic damage. In coordinated team fights, this ultimate can single-handedly zone out an entire enemy frontline.

Saber Rework: The Assassin Returns

Saber has been languishing in the lower tiers for several seasons, but Season 40 gives him a comprehensive rework that puts him firmly back in the conversation. The changes focus on making his burst combo more reliable while adding some survivability.

His first skill, Orbiting Swords, now has a faster rotation speed and the swords deal increased damage when they return. More importantly, each returning sword now reduces the cooldown of his second skill by 0.5 seconds, rewarding aggressive play. His second skill, Charge, has a slightly longer dash range and now grants a brief 0.8-second immunity to crowd control during the dash animation.

The biggest change is to his ultimate, Triple Sweep. The damage scaling has been increased from 200% to 250% total physical attack, and the final hit now applies a 40% armor reduction debuff for three seconds. This makes Saber a genuine threat to tanky targets, not just squishy mages and marksmen.

Notable Buffs This Patch

Saber is not the only hero getting love this season. Here are the standout buffs from the full list of 19:

  • Hanabi: Petal Barrage bounce range increased by 15%, and her passive shield now scales better into the late game. She is finally a viable marksman pick again.
  • Gatotkaca: Base HP increased by 200 and his ultimate, Unbreakable, now has a shorter cast time of 0.6 seconds (down from 0.8). This makes his initiation significantly harder to react to.
  • Faramis: Cult Altar duration extended by one second, and resurrected allies now return with 35% HP instead of 25%. He is set to become a priority pick in organized play.
  • Terizla: Movement speed increased from 250 to 260, and Execution Strike now has a 10% higher slow effect. Small changes, but enough to make his already oppressive laning phase even stronger.
  • Baxia: Shield of Spirit dash speed increased, and the HP regeneration reduction from his passive has been raised from 50% to 60%. A direct counter to sustain-heavy compositions.
  • Kadita: Ocean Goddess base damage increased at all levels, and her passive healing triggers faster after taking damage. These changes push her toward more aggressive mid-lane play.

Who Got Nerfed

With 9 nerfs on the table, some of the most dominant picks from Season 39 have been brought back to earth:

  • Joy: Meow, Rhythm! dash distance reduced and the skill's cooldown increased by one second at all levels. Joy was dominating the EXP lane with near-untouchable mobility, and this is a targeted fix.
  • Valentina: Shadow Strike base damage reduced by 40 at max level, and her ultimate's copied ability now has a 10% effectiveness reduction. She remains strong but no longer one-shots from the fog.
  • Karrie: Spinning Lightwheel true damage percentage reduced from 8% to 6.5% of max HP. Karrie was melting tanks too quickly, and this pulls her late-game scaling back to a reasonable level.
  • Arlott: Vengeance base damage on the enhanced basic attack reduced, and his passive lifesteal in the early game has been toned down. He was first-pick material for too long.

Battlefield and Equipment Changes

The jungle has received some tuning. The Walrus camp now spawns 15 seconds later, which slightly delays the jungle rotation and gives laners more breathing room in the first minute. The Lord's damage to structures has been increased by 10%, making late-game Lord takes even more decisive.

On the equipment side, Dominance Ice has received a cost reduction from 2010 to 1910 gold while keeping its stats unchanged, making it an earlier power spike for tank and support players. Genius Wand now provides 5 additional magic power, a subtle buff that benefits mages who build it as a second or third item.

Meanwhile, Blade of Despair has had its bonus damage against low-HP targets reduced from 25% to 20%. This hits assassin builds that relied on executing targets from 50% HP in a single rotation.

Season 40 is shaping up to be one of the more balanced patches in recent MLBB history. Marcel adds a genuinely new support archetype, Saber's rework gives veteran players a reason to revisit him, and the broad set of buffs should shake up the ranked meta significantly.
