Genshin Impact Temple of Space domain from Luna VI update featuring mysterious realms

What Is the Temple of Space?

The Temple of Space is one of Genshin Impact's memorable early-game domains, introducing players to the puzzle-heavy dungeon design that defines much of Teyvat's exploration. Located in the Starfell Valley area of Mondstadt, this domain combines environmental puzzles, elemental mechanics, and combat encounters in a self-contained challenge.

Whether you're tackling it for the first time or returning to help a friend, this guide covers everything you need to clear it efficiently.

Domain Location and How to Access It

The Temple of Space is part of the Archon Quest prologue and is located east of Starfell Lake in Mondstadt. You'll be directed here as part of the main storyline, so it's difficult to miss. The domain entrance is marked with the standard domain icon on your map once you've discovered it.

To unlock the domain entrance, you'll need to interact with the elemental totems near the gate. This serves as an early tutorial for how elemental application works on overworld puzzle objects. Use the appropriate element on each totem to unseal the entrance.

Puzzle Mechanics Inside

The Temple of Space introduces several puzzle types that recur throughout Genshin Impact:

Elemental Totems

You'll encounter Anemo and Pyro totems that need to be activated with the matching element. Position your character, switch to the right element, and use a skill or normal attack to light them up. All totems in a set usually need to be active simultaneously, so work quickly or use abilities that leave a lasting elemental effect.

Wind Currents and Updrafts

Several sections feature wind currents that you need to glide through to reach higher platforms. Look for Anemo Monuments that generate updrafts when activated. These are activated by applying Anemo to them, making the Traveler's Anemo skill the natural tool here.

Pressure Plates

Some doors are locked behind pressure plates that require weight to activate. You can stand on them yourself, use Geo constructs from characters like the Geo Traveler, or place certain objects on them. In early game, simply standing on the plate is usually sufficient since the domain is designed around starter characters.

Timed Challenges

Certain rooms lock you in and spawn enemies that must be defeated within a time limit. These are straightforward at the intended Adventure Rank but can catch under-leveled players off guard. Make sure your main damage dealer's weapon and artifacts are reasonably up to date.

Enemies You'll Face

The Temple of Space features Mondstadt-region enemies appropriate for early-game Travelers:

  • Hilichurls: Basic melee and ranged variants. Ranged Hilichurls with crossbows can be annoying in groups, so prioritise them first.
  • Samachurls: Elemental support enemies that create hazards on the ground. Interrupt their channeling with a quick attack or elemental skill.
  • Slimes: Anemo and Pyro slimes appear in rooms themed around those elements. Match your element to their weakness for fast kills. Remember that Anemo Slimes are immune to Anemo damage.
  • Abyss Mages: You may encounter a Cryo or Hydro Abyss Mage in the later rooms. Break their elemental shield with the opposing element first, then burst them down while they're staggered.

Optimal Team Compositions

Since this is an early-game domain, you'll likely be working with starter characters. Here are some effective approaches:

Free-to-Play Starter Team

  • Traveler (Anemo): Essential for Anemo puzzles and provides decent crowd control
  • Amber: Needed for Pyro totems and useful for ranged damage against flying enemies
  • Kaeya: Strong early-game damage dealer with Cryo application for shield breaking
  • Lisa: Electro application and AoE damage with her Elemental Burst

If You Have Early Pulls

Characters like Xiangling (free from Spiral Abyss Floor 3), Bennett, or any early five-star you've pulled can trivialise this content. Xiangling's Guoba provides Pyro application for puzzles and consistent off-field damage.

The most important thing is having Anemo and Pyro coverage for the puzzle elements. Combat-wise, any leveled team will handle the enemies comfortably.

Rewards

Completing the Temple of Space grants rewards tied to the Archon Quest progression, including:

  • Adventure EXP: A solid chunk that helps you reach your next Adventure Rank
  • Primogems: Awarded as part of quest completion
  • Character EXP materials: Wanderer's Advice and Adventurer's Experience
  • Mora: Early-game currency to fund your leveling
  • Enhancement Ore: For weapon upgrades

The domain also contains chests inside that provide additional rewards. Make sure to explore every room thoroughly before leaving, as it's easy to miss a chest tucked behind a pillar or on an upper platform.

Tips for Clearing Efficiently

Follow these strategies to make your run smooth:

  • Explore every corner: The domain has hidden alcoves with extra chests. Look up and behind objects, not just at ground level.
  • Bring food: If you're under-leveled, cook some damage-boosting or healing food before entering. Mondstadt Hash Browns and Sweet Madame are easy to make early on.
  • Don't rush puzzles: Take a moment to observe each room before acting. The solution is usually telegraphed by the positioning of totems and interactive objects.
  • Use elemental sight: Press and hold the middle mouse button (or the corresponding console button) to activate Elemental Sight. This highlights interactive objects and puzzle elements, making it much easier to spot what you need to interact with.
  • Level your weapons: Even if your characters are under-leveled, keeping weapons maxed for your current World Level makes a noticeable difference in clearing speed.
  • Watch for environmental hazards: Some rooms have elemental fields that apply Cryo or Pyro to your character. Avoid standing in them during combat, as the resulting elemental reactions (like being Frozen) can be dangerous when surrounded by enemies.

After the Temple of Space

Completing this domain progresses the main Archon Quest and opens up further story content in Mondstadt. The puzzle mechanics you've learned here reappear in increasingly complex forms throughout later domains and regions, so treat this as your training ground.

As you progress, you'll encounter domains with much tougher enemies and more intricate puzzles, but the fundamental principles remain the same: observe your surroundings, apply the right elements, and explore thoroughly.
